When Gmail launched this new feature in the Mid March of 2009, they only allowed us 5 second window to undo sending a message. But they have now increased the timings to 30 seconds. You can also change the “send cancellation period” from the settings page and this news was discovered by Google Operating system.
This is a lesser known feature from Gmail and it is past of Gmail Labs. So, if you are not aware of this feature, here’s a simple tutorial on how to undo the sent email in Gmail.
How to “Undo Send” in Gmail?
1. To get Started, Login to your Gmail account and click on the Green Labs icon, which is at the Top right corner of your screen next to your mail address.2. You will see the list of all features from Gmail. Scroll down and you will see this “Undo Send” feature just before the end of the page. Now enable the feature and click the save changes.
3. By default, Gmail allows you to undo sent emails, within 10 seconds. But you can also change the timing by visiting the settings page. The timings can be increased upto 30 seconds.
4. Now write and send an e-mail. You don’t need to do anything now. Just send your e-mail.
5. As soon as you have sent the mail, you will see a line of message above your Inbox, “Your message has been sent”, along with few extra options. You will see “Undo” among them. Just Click it.
6. That’s it. You will see the “Sending Has Been Undone” message and you your e-mail will be in draft form. You can edit or delete now and resend the e-mail.
