Instructions.
1. Turn on the laptop. If it does not boot up, connect the laptop's AC power adapter into an active power outlet. You should see the power LED light brighten, indicating that the battery is charging and functioning properly.
2. Launch the "HP Battery Check" utility. This feature is included in the "HP Support Assistant" utility that comes pre-installed in HP laptops. If you do not have it installed in your system, access the HP website to download the utility. If you just started charging the laptop, wait at least 30 to 60 minutes so that the laptop has enough battery charge before launching the battery check utility.
3. Click "Start" and then "HP Support Assistant." Click "Troubleshoot" and then "Power, Thermal and Mechanical" to launch the "HP Battery Check" utility.
4. Select "Battery Check" to check the status of your HP battery. If the status says "OK," it means that the battery is charging and functioning properly. If the status says "Replace," it means that the battery is reporting an error and should be replaced immediately. If the status says "Calibrate," the battery is in proper condition but should be calibrated. If the status says "No battery," the computer cannot detect the battery but the system supports a second battery.
